Home - What is a Play Association?

A Play Association is a voluntary organisation working locally to promote, support, improve and deliver quality play opportunities for children in response to local need.

In some areas, play support agencies or play networks exist instead of play associations. Play support agencies can consist of a play specialist based in a voluntary service council for children. This is how PAHF originally started out; within the Voluntary Sector Resource Agency (now known as CaVSA). Play support agencies have similar outcomes to play associations, working locally to improve play opportunities in the area.

PAHF is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Please see about us for further information about our organisation.

It is essential for Play to be promoted and supported within London as there is so little space for children to play safely. Play is threatened by traffic, crime, overcrowding, the costs of living, poverty and the increasing market value of land.

PAHF is one of 13 play associations and other play support agencies, many of which were originally set up with help from London Play's Play Together project (2000 - 2003, Community Fund). Alongside London Play we work closely with these organisations through being a member of the Play Association Network and feel collectively our work is vital.
